Howdy...

If anyone wants to learn from my mistakes...

1 - If the server is auto-uncompressing the gz zipped files, DO NOT
accept the files on a Windoze machine. You end up accepting text files
as binary and get ^M garbage making the patch useless.

2 - If you download the gz file to your Windoze machine, don't
uncompress it on your Windoze machine using WinZip 6.2. It does not
unzip gz well enough and you get ^M garbage.

If you do download the gz file to your Windoze machine, transfer the
file "in gz format" to floppy or ftp the file to the Linux box. THEN
gunzip it on the Linux box, then apply the patch. You'll be much happier
than I was till I figure out what I was doing wrong.
