Re: /dev/lp1

Mark,

Thanx for your suggestions. I will try them this evening (GMT+1, daylight savings time) and let you know the outcome.

Regards,
Bert

Bert,

I had exactly the same problem, asked about it here, and
got no satisfying answer. I do not understand how this
happens, or how to fix it, and would welcome some explanatio
n from anyone who is familiar with the issue.

I was able to fix it by running (many times I must say)
/etc/rc.d/init.d/lpd stop and start,
and palying with /usr/sbin/lpc (in order: clear, stop,
disable, enable, start, restart) after each restart,
followed by lpr testpage.ps. After several repetitions of
the above the system started to print again.

As far as I could determine, the problem was caused by lpd
not being able to create socket on /dev/lp1. I have no
idea what step or combination of my tweaking did it, and
not knowing for sure is very discomforting though to me.
