Matt -

If at all possible, my FIRST suggestion would be to upgrade to 8.9.3 as
soon as you can. There are RPMs available for the upgrade at any one of
a handful of mirrors. The reason for the upgrade is that there are
several known exploits for sendmail as well as spam filtering
improvements within the newer versions. That having been said, sendmail
(at least i believe 8.8 is the same way), much like inetd services uses
a deny/allow system. Meaning, that you should have a relay-allow and an
ip-allow file somewhere on your system that you tell sendmail about
through the sendmail.cf file. These files tell sendmail who to trust to
do relaying. MOST sendmail systems, dont allow relaying by default, and
in order to allow certain customers to relay mail through your server
you need to tell it WHO it can trust (FQDN and IP). Check out the docs
on www.sendmail.org for more details.

But, by all means, if you CAN upgrade....DO SO!!!!
