Hello Benjamin,
having logged in as a user, when you're ready to shutdown, do an "su -"
instead of a
plain old "su". This way you'll get a root shell with your path set properly,
you'll now be able to do a "shutdown -h 0" no problem.
"su" by itself doesn't give you the paths, just access rights. "su -" runs
login scripts.
