Several people have noted that the test was multi-cpu. I think the report
is damaging for Linux precisely because it argues that Linux is not
"enterprise-ready". Color this in the context of MS about to spring
an-NT-like NG OS designed to run on everything and I think the report is
pretty unfortunate. Although it's beyond my technical resources, I would
like to see a thorough rebuttal like Novell's.
The bit in this thread about connections was lost on me and I'm curious to
hear more. I suspect that most IT managers will be fooled on this point as
I was.
BTW, if you read the end of the report is obvious that Mindcraft is
admitting that Linux was poorly configured, at least in comparison to NT.
And it seems like they went out of their way to make Linux look bad (so NT
isn't updated often... and this is a *feature*?).
So the report is really, if anything, damning of the technical expertise of
MindCraft. I think it's more than deceitful to turn this around and claim
a lack of support available for Linux. Especially the way they did:
getting the *wrong* technical support (install support) from Red Hat--which
*does* offer (real) support--and then saying it's bad. How much free help
tuning NT do you think you're going to get if I phone up MS?
Speaking of support, I *don't* think this thread is off-topic; I'm sure
that Red Hat was singled-out for abuse because they do offer support.
So, getting back to why I responded to Ramon--YES! If I understood the
metric of GETs per second, that box was smoking either way! Who,
individual or enterprise, needs more than 1000 hits a second? Or am I
misunderstanding?
