I am confused about tape drives

I have very little budget for a Linux server but feel that it needs to be
backed up regularly. I have had a lot of trouble getting an Exabyte(?) tbu
installed and working at home so I'm feeling "once bitten etc.". I cannot
afford to go buy a SCSI controller+drive so I have been looking at
refurbished Iomega drives. Or, is there a way to backup across a Novell
3.x network to a tbu in a Novell server?
The Iomega Ditto Max internal is about the right capacity and seems fast
enough. Is it supported? The HOWTO seems to say yes but all I could find
on this list's archives are people trying to get it to work, no answers
(maybe the answers were via private email?). Is it an ATAPI or floppy
drive? Or is this a dumb question?--the bit in the ftape HOWTO about not
being able to use a rescue disk and a floppy-controlled tape drive
simultaneously seems like something I want to avoid.
TIA for your comments!
