Could be a lot of things but I had a similar problem which was related to
my CPU (which was a replacement "turbo" unit). I also got advice at the
time that bad memory could lead to this symptom. You would diagnose these
sorts of things by swapping out parts. For the CPU itself, I would see if
there are any AMD-specific tweaks/patches. Maybe someone will follow this
up with information or else you could search the archives on
http://www.redhat.com or http://www.dejanews.com.
If you recompiled the same source, say, ten times, does it happen each time
or once or often? Does it happen if you do a cold boot after the chips are
cool or only after running for a while?
