dhcp changes with 6.0?

Did a quick install of Redhat 6.0 yesterday before leaving work and
during the install selected dhcp for configuration of eth0 (I often do
this when working with a new box which is just for test purposes and
it worked great for RH5.X). When the machine rebooted after finishing
the install program, the first thing I noticed was that the prompt
showed "localhost" rather than the "dhcpxxxx" (dns name)which had
always appeared with the 5.X installs. I next tried checking network
connectivity and found that apparently dns wasn't working. A quick
check with ifconfig eth0 showed that the machine had in fact gotten
an address via dhcp. Next I checked /etc/resolv.conf and found that it
didn't even exist. Hmmmmmmm. Must be wrong options passed to dhcpcd.
Tried looking at the man page for dhcpcd and found that there was
none. OK, tried dhcpcd -h and got unknown program. Hmmmmmm. Ok, tried
rpm -q dhcpcd and got "dhcpcd not installed". So I installed the
dhcpcd package and restarted the machine. Nothing changed. But by
running dhcpcd with the correct switches /etc/resolv.conf was created
and everything worked fine. Then it got too late for me to do any
further investigation and it will have to wait for monday. But the
questions are:

1. How did the machine get an address from dhcp without the dhcpcd
daemon installed?

2. Where in the rc files should dhcpcd be (and why wasn't it installed
in the first place and why wasn't it configured by either the rpm or
netconfig?)

Normally I would plow through this myself until I found the answer but
I suspect I will not be the only person with these problems.
