DNS Round-Robin question

I already brought up my sendmail problems (in another post), and mentioned
that I would like to separate out the SMTP and POP functions to two
different boxes, however another idea is running loose in my head that would
give my system better growth potential...that is if it works!

I was considering using the DNS round-robin features to help balance the
load between two mail servers, both handling the same tasks and sharing a
drive (via NFS), so that no matter which machine a user got routed to, they
would still be able to send and receive mail.

This gives me the ability to later a more machines to handle an ever
increasing mail traffic load.

However, there are several issues I wonder about:

1) Does the round-robin feature work well for mail, or is there something I
am missing?

2) Is NFS reliable enough to do this?

3) Am I insane for even considering this option?
