fsck hanging on boot with redhat 6.0

Hi,

I'm having a problem with redhat 6.0. The startup process hanging on
'Checking root filesystem'. Pressing control-c allows the boot to continue
but the root filesystem isn't remounted for readwrite. I'm not sure what
information might be relevant, but my /usr directory is mounted on a
seperate partition.

Thanks,
David Welch
