Thanks to Greg and Igmar for their responses to my backup question. It
seems as though what I need is a script that closes and copies my data
files to a safe place. This is an excellent idea. Is there a way in a
perl or shell script to tell when a file is not open (or not open for
writing)?
RH 5.2 comes with rhbackup which I've never heard of anyone using. Looking
at it, I would need to add a lot and I'm not fluent in shell script. Has
anyone already modified the script to retension the tape and do a compare?
On the plus side, it seems to handle remote hosts which would be a plus.
Otherwise, I would need to roll my own. However, before I reinvented that
wheel, I thought I would see if anyone has a nice script they could send
me? (Or send me somewhere to get one.) I would like to keep it as simple
as possible: use tar, do complete backups each time, etc.
