I got dropped a few months ago and couldn't get back on either.  I could not
even get an automatic acknowledgement for my subscription messages.

Red Hat helped me with the problem.  It turned out that their software was
sending subscription confirmations to the address in the "Sender" field of my
message, rather than the "From" field  (as I recall).  Unfortunately, that is
not a valid address, so I received nothing in response and could not confirm
the subscription request.

The workaround was to include a "Reply-To" field in my subscription requests. 
That's how I got back on the list.
