[no subject]

This is my immediate problem then (all documentation I had and grabbed off
the net has been tried)

Diald seems to hand over to pppd correctly
pppd seems to hand over to chat correctly
chat seems to do the right thing looking at the lights on the modem.
It seems to send the username
It seems to send the password
It seems to send the ppp command
PPP seems to start on the server, because after that sequence, the RX light
flickers once ever second or so.
BUT my pppd doesn't then seem to 'take over' again and respond to the
server.

For some reason /var/log/messages is not showing the chat sequence, and
/var/log/diald.connect isn't logging either, so I can only be 90% sure I'm
correct on the above sequence.

As stated before 'ifup ppp0' goes up correctly, so I don't think ppp has a
configuration problem.

On my 5.2 system (where I copied the config files from), /var/log/messages
tells me what's going on all the time.

What am I missing?
