Well, I was going to try a kernel recompile after reconfiguring and then
adding the line you suggested to /etc/lilo.conf, but I've got another
problem - lilo is saying that my linux partition is past the 1024 cylinder
boundary (which it is). So I set my hard drive to LBA mode in the BIOS,
then tried installing lilo with the "-l" switch (also with the "linear"
keyword in lilo.conf), but nada. This is very odd, because I had no
problems installing lilo numerous times before with this exact partition
configuration (and without using the linear option). If it's not one thing,
it's another. :) Suggestions?
To get back to the original problem: I've yet to upgrade from the default
2.2.5 kernel RH 6 ships with, and I was under the impression that only older
(2.0.x) and newer (2.2.10 and up) kernels will recognize the
"hd(x)=ide-scsi" option at boot time (I'm currently specifying the ide-cdrom
module to ignore my cd-writer as an ATAPI drive in /etc/conf.modules, which
the newer kernels also support, I understand).
Bah. I'm almost getting frustrated. :)
