Could be that one of your configuration files, named.conf for example,
could be corrupted in some way. When you start linuxconf, it examines a
variety of files, they need to look "ok" to linuxconf, or else it can dump
core, even a typo can cause this, for example not commenting correctly in
a config file of some kind.
Best thing to do, is:
login as a user, su to root, get the process id of your shell
login as another user on a different vt, su to root, and run
strace -f -p <pid of first shell process)
You may wish to redirect this to a file or something. You should be able
to see which file it was examining when it dumps core.
