Hm - I'm in no way an expert on this matter, but did you try simply
running X apps on the remote machine after logging in via ssh? When I
installed ssh (1.2.7 under RHL 5.2), I didn't have to do anything to get
X apps to run - I simply used ssh to log into the remote machine and
started whatever I wanted to run - and it displayed on my local machine,
right out-of-the-box (that's one feature I really like about ssh...).
