classic mistake. There are two parts to lilo. /sbin/lilo is a linux app
that reads /etc/lilo.conf and writes a boot record to wherever you tell
it.
The LILO: prompt you get when you boot was put there by /sbin/lilo, but is
not the same program. LILO: has no idea what is in /etc/lilo.conf, it
only knows about the configuration info that /sbin/lilo told it about when
it was installed.
short answer: rerun /sbin/lilo.
