I assume you are booting up with lilo...during bootup,
when the lilo prompt appears at the top of the screen,
type in "2.2.12-1" and hit <enter>. You have 5 seconds
to enter this. You could make it easier and rename
the 2.2.12-1 kernal label to something else. I named
mine simply 2212 (that is: label=2212 in lilo.conf.
Of course, you can name it whatever you like). After
testing it and finding it all good, I then move the new
kernel portion of lilo to be the first in the list so
that it is the default kernel to startup.
If you hit <tab> at the lilo prompt, you will see the
list of choices you can enter (all based on the labels
in lilo.conf). _You_ would see: linux 2.2.12-1 dos
based on your lilo.conf.

I just created a new kernel and I want to interactively select whether to
boot the new kernel or the old kernel. As I understand it, I should either
be able
to automatically get a prompt where I can type a kernel name or, if I press
a
key, manually force the prompt. Neither seems to work for me.
