If you are not running 24*7, you should run some of the cron jobs
manually. This stuff is normally taken care of by 'logrotate' via cron
and can be configured to your liking. If you look around in /etc for
cron* and logrotate* files (and directories), you can get a feel for how
this can work automatically.
