Improve font quality?

Hi,

    I have been using redhat 6.1 and netscape for a few days and I have
noticed that the fonts quality when accesing web pages is really low
compared to the quality you get when you access the same pages with a mac or
a windows pc.
    I mean that after a few hours working with the computer you really get
tired of staring at the screen.

    - Is there any way to solve this problem?
    - What about the comercial graphics servers that are being offered
daily? are they worth the price or the do not improve on anything?
    - Has anyone found any suitable solution or suffers the same problem
that I suffer?
    - What is anti aliasing or something called font smoothing and does the
mac and the windpws pc work using that technique? and finally which is the
state of this technique in the GNU/linux world?
