that site tells you just about everything you need to know to get the
wheel working in X, at least for the important things like netscape,
xterm et al., and xemacs.  the key is to put

   Protocol        "MouseManPlusPS/2"
   Buttons 5
   ZAxisMapping 4 5

in your XF86Config file (leave out the PS/2 if you have a serial
version).  then cut and paste from that website to .Xdefaults and
.emacs to tell the programs what to do when they get signals from
buttons 4 and 5. 

i still haven't gotten my wheel working under svgalib, but that's not
a huge deal.
