basic Upgrade of Package ?

I need to upgrade perl on my lunux 5.1 server.
If i run "rpm - q perl" i get "perl-5.004-6"

I have downloaded "perl-5_00502-2_src.rpm" this is in /usr

I have got X windows and looked at using the RPM manager in there
but could not see any Upgrade Option.

If i run the following:
rpm -Uvh perl-5_00502-2_src.rpm
perl               ###################################

This returns me to a unix prompt.

After a restart "rpm -q perl" i still get the same version shown.

Basically, i would like to remove the exisiting perl and reinstall the 
later version.  Once i have this working with RPM i assume I can use 
this to upgrade all packages especially those with security 
implications.! I would like to use the Xwindows RPM manager [if 
recommended]??
