Folks,
I recently installed RedHat 5.1 on my old pentium 90 box, which has
a Matrox Ultima video card with 2 meg of video RAM.
I discovered that XFree86 does not support this card, but then
acquired a copy of Metro-X 3.1.5 which does have a driver for the
card.
As instructed, I installed XFree, then installed Metro-X over it. X-
windows is now running, but I can't seem to get it to recognize and
use the memory on the card. It only seems to want to run in the
lowest VGA mode, which will not let me run control-panel and other
useful tools.
I'm addressing this question to Metrolink Support, but wondering if
anybody on the list has had any experience with running X-
Windows with this card.
Any hints and suggestions would be helpful. I'm a Linux newbie and
all this stuff is still very mysterious.
Thanks, John Kinney
