First of all, sincere thanks to those who replied to my post so quickly.
The problem I'm facing is that for some reason, even though I made a
backup of my vmlinuz by naming it vmlinuz.OLD and made necessary changes
to lilo.conf and ran it, I get the same error message when I boot into
that as I do when I boot into vmlinuz (the 2.2.1 recompiled kernel). ie:
Partition check:
request_module[ide-disk]: Root fs not mounted
hdb: driver not present
VFS: Cannot open root device 03:41
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount fs on 03:41
I have no idea why this happens, but can someone suggest a solution to
this or am I doomed to re-install everything? Is it possible to boot into
my linux box as a single user and recompile the kernel, and if so, what's
the command to do so again or am I way off? Thank you in advance.
Best,
Steve
