whats port 22???

Hi all,

Well i am running sentry and for about four day now i have but gettting
some port blocks on port 22.  it seems that me isp keeps trying to
access the port adn now i have 4 ip address that are all in my
hosts.deny all ip addresses from my isp.  Any ideas what port 22 is and
why my isp is hit the port and getting blocked.
