You've just made a very important distinction here, though.  He didn't
just port scan, he tried a bad hack attempt.  He didn't just take a few
pictures of your house, he tried ploughing his car through your front
door.

Put up a house, people will see it.  Put your computer online, people will
port scan it.

Big difference between the port scan and the hack attempt.
