I just installed wordperfect8 which i downloaded from www.linuxberg.com 
I had no problem with it. the only thing i can think of is that you will
need to be logged into you root xwindows account to install it. you
can't su to root but logged in as root you will have no problems. you
will want to register wp if free for home and no-profit orgs.  If you
still have problems just try download wp from linuxberg it has as a nice
install script.
