Hello all,
Here we are again with a puzzler.
When I go to some websites, for an example http://www.esprit.net, (not
picking on this one michael, it's just the latest to do so), my Netscape
just up and disappears. No worning, just goes away. I can restart and go
from there, just not at those sites that cause problems.
On Michaels site, it loads enough for me to see the page then it goes
bye-bye. I looked at my /var/log files and found nothing pertaining to
the problem.
Running Red Hat 5.2 with all updates as of last week, except the kernal
updates (still trying to correctly compile the kernal. now stock
2.0.36-.07 kernal.)
I have 64 meg swap, the / is over 900 meg.
Running AMD 486DX-100
Quantum 2.5 Gig HD (bios only allows 2.1 so thats what it's set to)
(500 Meg DOS/WIN3.11, 300 meg free DOS, 900+ meg Linux native, 64
meg linux swap)
16 meg fast-page parity memory (I think this might be the problem, but
not sure)
This is with having Start, nxterm, UserNet, Netscape 3.0.4 running.
(This version seems to be smaller and 4.x.x was locking up my machine. I
had to login on another console and kill user:chuck to free up that
console. go figure.
Top gives:
mem: 14652k av 14482k used 504k free 7520k shared
swap: 64508k av 6876k used 57632k free
Netscape uses between 26% to 35% of memory used.
16 meg of memory is planned for (payed from my account at the IRS)
If this is the case, any ideas possibly to force the machine to use more
swap for this?
Thanks
Chuck
