StarOffice Hanging

I downloaded and installed StarOffice 5.0 on a standard 5.2 redhat system
today.  I also installed the java jre files as well.  Everything seemed to
install without problems.

However,StarOffice is hanging randomly.  I can open an application and close it
a couple of times but then the program will hang.  There are no error messages.
It hangs at different places...there doesn't seem to be any repeatable pattern.

When it hangs StarOffice is running my cpu (a P2/400) at nearly 100% 
utilization.  I have to open another xterm and kill the StarOffice process to
get out of it.

Is this program really this buggy???  I keep thinking that I must have done
something wrong but I can't understand what it could be???
