Okay. So the good news is I got ssh, read about it, and got it
working. The bad news is, just like I can't install VNC on the host
computer whose windows I want to get through my IP-MASQ box, I can't
install ssh on that host either. So, that's a no-go.
HOWEVER, I do have a different host on the same network that I can log
into via ssh, and on that host start an Xnest, and finally log into the
desired host and have it display to Xnest (which of course is on the
desired desktop). This seems particularly kludgy, but it works. It's
also rather slow, but again, it works =)
