Intel Pentium III security `bug'

Writing based on non-technical media news:

Word has it that the upcoming Pentium III chips have a security `bug' that
somehow broadcasts the chip's serial number... I've yet to see a technical
spec
on this, but Intel claims that this `feature' can be user-disabled (until
reboot)...

Is there a mechanism in the works to allow control of this? (Does this bug
only occur when running some sort of special drivers...? I don't see a
hotline
between a Pentium II and an ethercard, so I'm not sure how this would
happen...) e.g. could one put an rc.local `echo "nobroadcast" >
/proc/p3serial' or something...?

Tnx...
