ppp not working

I have been using redhat 5.0 for a year or so and decided to build an newer
machine with 5.2 and have done so I can get the ppp interface up and
configure it the same as 5.0 and ifconfig shows the interface up but no
connection from netscape I am stumped ftp doesnt work so I appear to be
connected but I am not. HELP
