Damn...sound still screwed with 2.2.0

I installed the 2.2.0-0.3 rpms from rawhide and booted
it up. No problems except that I still cannot setup
my creative/ensonique AudioPCI 1371. I haven't yet
tried the alsa drivers...am a bit put off by them
being tar.gz files rather than rpms (I don't like the
lack of easy ability to remove typical tar'd apps
except by manually hunting down individual files,
headers, libs, etc, and doing it manually - I like
that rpm installs and removes everything in one step).

Anyway, I have 2.2.0-0.3 installed and running and
have tried several times to install modutils-2.1.121-3
but whenever I do I lose the ability to mount my cdrom
(iso09960 isn't supported and hpfs isn't supported
messages at bootup or whenever I try to mount my cdrom
after installing this rpm). I have repeatedly retreated
back to modutils-2.1.85. I had been hoping that 2.1.121
would clear up the sound problem since the kernel upgrade
hasn't, nor has the sndconfig upgrade (0.27).

Unless someone has a nice fix for this pain, I guess I
am simply going to have to return the soundcard and
pick up a standard isa soundblaster again.
