I think the USENET is dead, and is a waste of internet bandwidth.
It's a fine technology for an intranet, but spammers, warez, and porn have
tarnished and infiltrated USENET right to it's death.
Collectively, news is taking up terabytes of storage for each day's mix of
99% crap.
There's lots of alternatives to news (My customers have threaded group
discussions with WWWboard), but nothing is here to news in complete
functionality or widespread acceptance (yet). I'll be cheering for any
good attempts.
