Same here.  I tried many of the different Windows based methods of sharing
Internet access to a network.  All of them were either unstable or failed to
"proxy" certain protocols and sites.  I eventually began using Linux IP
Masquerading with tremendous success.  Virtually everything works.  (I still
have an occasional problem with FTP, but I think that is more related to the
sites i am at than IP Masq.)  RedHat Linux 5.1 installs with IP Masq
capabilities compiled into the kernel.  All you have to do is turn on IP
Forwarding in 'netcfg' and set up your 'ipfwadm' rules according to the IP
Masquearding HOWTO.  (Look in /usr/doc/HOWTO/mini/ for the IP Masquerading
HOWTO.)  Trust me, you'll be much more staisfied with IP Masq than WinGate.
The configuration may be a little harder, but at least you can share the
access to more than one machine! :)
