That combined with a decent backup will allow you to perform an install
then a selective restore which should give you a functioning system.  Then
you can restore data and other NONBINARY objects.

With regards to keeping the rewted file system around, I'd format the disk.
 If you wanted to expore, put it on a stand alone system with no NIC or
floppy for examination.

Not knowing precisely what the 'Kit' did, I'd be concerned with it looking
for machines on the local net to attach itself to.
