No boot under 2.2.2

Hi guys,
Here is my dilemma.

I've installed 2.2.2 make, modules and everything.
I am using the FD to boot in linux with the kernel on /dev/hdb1
(secondary physical device on the chain)

I've modified lilo.conf to reflect the new "zImage" compiled kernel.
I can not boot on the new one, only the old is visible (bootable)!
I've created a floppy with the the new kernel - still nothing!

Any ideas what it is wrong!
