A friend of mine ran into this same problem on his Pressario. The
bottom line is that kinux dosen't usually work with internal modems. You
could always write a driver :) Or you could go get a cheap external modem.

Subject: Compaq pressario modem
Hi all
My wife is intereted in Linux and so I installed it on a partition on her
hardrive. Everything is dandy with a vanilla 5.2 install except I cannot
get her modem (internal and shipped with the computer-- not pcmcia) to
work. Win 95 sees the modem as com2. Is it possible that this is a
winmodem issue?? The model of the machine is Compaq Pressario 1620.
Regards,
Joel West
