Greetings,
I'm having a heck of a time activating an Ethernet card. Perhaps
someone could point me in the right direction. Here's where I am.
The card is a SMC Plus Elite 16 Combo. I know it works cause if I
put it in the new box I just brought up everything is okay. I did a
fresh install on the new box and networking fired up easily. Problem is
that I want to connect the new box to the box I'm having problems with.
And I finally determined that the floppy controller in the old box was
conflicting with the default settings on the NIC.
I broke down and loaded windoze... While I had to play with the
jumpers on the card, I finally got windoze to recognize the card. I
figured that the resulting information would make setting it up on Linux
easy as pie... unfortunately that wasn't the case.
Windoze gives me the following information:
Interupt 10
Input/Output 0300-031F
Memory CC000-031F
When I try entering that information via the Kernal Config tool
the tool accepts it then it (the information) appears to drift off into
the electronic haze of cyberspace... When booting the machine I get a
delaying eth0 message. And after pulling up the kernal config tool I find
the cards information is missing.
Am I missing something simple here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Brent Sims
