executables ...

Hello all,

This is pretty basic but I'm having trouble running executable files. I've
got logcheck.sh running via /bin/sh but for other files (such as sentry or,
say, netrek), would someone tell me how to run these programs?

This also seems to be the case when I compile c programs into executable
format. Am I missing a package or something?
