(Choice 2 in my initial message)

This file "initializes" the I/O ports and addresses used by your PNP
devices. The AWE-32 is a PNP device, and therefor requires this before
things like sndconfig and sntstat will work.

You REMOVE the comments "#" in front of the appropriate lines to get Linux
to configure the card to the corresponding settings upon bootup.

If you fail to do this, your card will not work. Once done Linux will
support all of the features of the AWE-32. I have one, and it works great
under Linux.

Make sure you elected to install MODULAR support for sound in the kernel,
and have also performed the

"make modules_install"
