I've done RAID on a box, and let me give you a few pointers.

1) Forget the raidtools RPM it sucks/broken.
2) Subscribe to the linux-raid maillist:  linux-raid vger rutgers edu
3) Ignore all the existing documention, it sucks/out of date
4) Read:  http://ostenfeld.dk/~jakob/Software-RAID.HOWTO/  instead.
