do you plug the twisted pair directly into the NIC car or do you have 
a AUI (something that converts 15pin to twisted pair)?

Does your hub have a collision led on it.  

if yes can you connect and disconnect the NT box then the Linux box
to determine which box is causing the commotion.

One more thing that might cause collisions is connecting a
out to a out is you bub configurable to have the ports either a 
in or a out?  (Your PC or desktop is usually an out this conects
to a in on a hub).

One more thing below you list the mesg with excess collisions.
does this occur if you are not connected to the hub? (ie. no cable
attached?)
