Try pinning mail.lx.net from the shell and see what happens, if you don't
get a response edit /etc/resolv.conf and add the DNS server of your isp.

Subject: Routing problem?
I think this may be a routing problem, but I'm not sure. I can login to
my ISP okay and ping systems outside my network, but I can't surf or
retrieve my email. My email program keeps complaining that mail.lx.net
(my POP mail server) isn't found. Here's my netstat -r -n:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt
Iface
209.211.34.3 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 1524 0 0
ppp0
127.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 U 3584 0 0
lo
0.0.0.0 209.211.34.3 0.0.0.0 UG 1524 0 0
ppp0
Here's my /etc/hosts:
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain
208.221.108.11 lx.net lx.net
192.168.1.1 linux linux.law.net
192.168.1.2 stephen stephen.law.net
192.168.1.3 win95 win95.law.net
Any ideas what I (1) need to be looking for and (2) what I might need to
fix. As a side note, everything was working perfectly last night. Then
I noticed a typo in my /etc/hosts and fixed it. PRIOR to the fix, one
line read
192.168.1.2 stephen linux.law.net
I changed that to the /etc/hosts shown above. After I restarted, I
couldn't surf or check my email.
Thanks guys!
