LILO error "LI"

When I try to boot off my hard drive, I get the lilo error "LI".
I've read that this is caused by several things...
1) LILO is setup wrong - this is not the problem, I haven't touched
/etc/lilo.conf since installation (an hour ago). I took a look at it,
and nothing seems to be wrong.
2) the BIOS hard drive settings are wrong. This is an old 386SX
with an 800meg drive and 16megs of RAM. I setup the BIOS with the
appropriate cylinders, heads, and sectors.
Any ideas why this is happening?
I can still access linux through the rescue floppy.
Is there a command or something that creates boot floppies, that load
everything just as if I had boot from the hard drive?
thanks for the help,
Aaron
