Check /etc/shadow for a password entry and remove it.
Make sure the password field in /etc/passwd has an x in it, just like the
other entries. Should work fine.
UNIXMAN, hand editing the passwd file is fine as long as you know what
you are doing. All the utilities do is make it easier to manage, they
still do the same basic thing.
