Back Orifice is a "back door", get it ;-0. It is a virus/trojan program
that will allow a client machine (Unix/Linux) to control the affected
machine (Windows) remotely. The Windows user must execute a hacked program
for it to take effect. It listens for commands from the controller box on a
specified port.
Apparently, someone has written a script that attaches to the Orifice port,
and emulates an infected Windows machine. Some crackers with a Back Orifice
client would look stupid trying to control a Linux machine.
Simply put, this is a security toy for people who have too much fun scanning
/var/log/messages.
And, I'm one of them....
