Good Day RHlist readers -
Currently running an RedHat 5.2 Linux 2.0.36 machine (a "sandbox" server
i use to test new packages, installs, etc) i was interested in upgrading
to the latest 6.0 distro. So, I grabbed the hedwig distribution from
rufus (the entire /i386/ tree) using wget, which worked quite well. I
then made the appropriate boot disks. Booted the machine using the
boot.img diskette, kernel loads ok, goes to the install GUI and i select
an upgrade from the hard drive. I point it to my the partition that
holds the /RedHat/RPMS and /RedHat/base directories (which are complete
from all i can see) and it the install gets to the point of searching
for packages to install and comes back with an error that it cannot
locate the RPM database.
Since i wasnt sure at that point whether it was referring to the LOCAL
RPM database for the 5.2 distro, i tried to rebuild it using rpm. And
tried the install again. Still the same error.
Anyone come across this and know how to correct? I have done HDD
upgrades in the past and they have all gone quite successfully. I reran
wget a couple more times to ensure that i did indeed get ALL the files
from rufus.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
