bash 2?

I can't remember why I upgraded to bash 2 several months ago (just to try
it out I suppose) but it's been giving me increasing problems compiling
tarballs and rpms - and while occasionally it's because of a bugfix it's
usually because of a new bug.  Are there any _advantages_ to bash 2?
