I'm trying to get diald to work on a small home network so I can do IP
masquerading. The machine in question is a p100, 16 meg RAM, I forget the
brand of network card, but it's using the tulip driver and was autoprobed
succesfully. I did a fresh install of 5.2 thinking I had something screwed
up (i was playing around with a couple of other things before I tried
diald). I am using diald version 0.16 on a 2.036 kernel.
My problem is as follows:
My network connections are working fine. I can FTP into the NT PDC server
with no problem. All network activity that should remain internal does.
When I issue a command from the command line (ping, ftp, etc) that should
resolve outside the network, diald initializes the modem (US Robotics 33.6
external/ upgraded to 56 y.90). I can see the data leds start to flash, and
then that's it. It just hangs there. I do have a working ppp script that I
can use with no problems from the command line. I took the diald.conf
example file, placed it in /etc, modified the line for the connect script
path, and that was it. I've made no other changes. If someone could help
me, I would be most appreciative. I have scoured books, archives, dejanews,
newsgroups, how-to's,etc. with no luck in resolving this.
thanks in advance.
